Yoga in the work place - Yoga for school teachers

Teaching is a most rewarding vocation, however the nature of the teaching environment is often characterised by periods of extreme stress. In addition to normal administrative and teaching duties, difficulties with disruptive pupils and, possibly, disruptive parents can sometimes tip the balance to a point where the level of stress becomes detrimental to health.

If not adequately addressed, periods of short-term stress exposure can build into a chronic stress response. This may manifest as anxiety, tiredness, depression, digestive disorders, mood swings … the list is endless. Ultimately this can affect confidence, teaching skills and long term health.

Some schools show a commitment to addressing these issues by providing free or subsidised yoga classes either before, during or after school.

Geoff has specific experience in providing support through yoga to school teachers by matching the benefits of yoga to the needs of the teachers.

“ Geoff's endless patience and reassuring one to one support has meant the successful introduction of yoga on a weekly basis, which is really endorsing and enriching staff well-being at Howe Dell. I would gladly recommend him to any organisation. His skills are obvious in yoga but his sensitive management of our 'mixed ability group' has been invaluable in building confidence and trust.”

Yoga for teachers is a tremendously effective way to allow you to redress the balance by creating an oasis of calm.

  • By following techniques for breathing and postures, yoga will give direct benefits in terms of fitness and flexibility

  • More importantly, yoga will allow you to disconnect from negative mind sets and emotions. This ability to break the cycle of destructive thoughts has tremendous mental benefits.

  • Giving yourself permission to release your burdens of responsibility, even for a short time, will have a profound effect on both the body and the mind.

  • With regular practice you will find yourself becoming more able to place all the stressful issues into a more manageable context.

Classes can easily be scheduled within the school environment. Options include:

  • Early bird class – to calm and focus you before class

  • Lunch time energiser – to revitalise and revive flagging minds

  • After school wind down – to release stress, allowing you to rest and refresh ready for the next school day

If you feel that your colleagues would benefit from a yoga class at your school please contact Geoff by e-mail or phone to discuss your needs and find out about available options for teaching slots.

Yoga in the work place - Corporate Yoga

Stress is now recognised as a major factor leading to a reduction in efficiency, reduced output, increased sickness and more crucially a general lack of morale and confidence. In the current economic climate maintaining a happy and efficient workforce has become of critical importance in the battle to preserve cash flow and improve profitability.

Proactive employers are already looking at alternative ways to improve the well being of their staff and ensure that the values embodied within schemes such as Investors In People (I.I.P) are fully addressed.

  • Alleviating work-place stress through the provision of subsidised or free yoga classes is one such alternative.

  • Yoga classes have been proven to increase both productivity and morale.

  • They also provide a positive indicator to the workforce and external assessors that the company is investing in staff wellbeing.

If not adequately addressed, periods of short-term stress exposure can build into a chronic stress response. Ultimately this will lead to a breakdown in efficiency and can quickly spread into a company-wide malaise that directly affects profit margins.

Yoga is a tremendously powerful way to address such issues. Classes can easily be scheduled within the work place environment. Options include:

  • Early bird class – to relax and focus you at the beginning of the day

  • Lunch time energiser – to revitalise and revive flagging minds

  • After work wind down – to release stress and allow the body and mind to rest and refresh ready for the following work day
